Pages on the Moon

Pages on the Moon
By Joy Extine Webb, East Sierra Branch

East Sierra member David Rosenthal died in 2007. Fellow East Sierra member Joy Extine Webb wrote this memorial for his services. We lost them both to cancer. Please consider donating to cancer research – extremely important work that has seen diminished funding since the onset of Covid-19.

For you, Dave…

PAGES ON THE MOON

With a sparkle in his eye and a youthful grin spread ‘cross his face,
I can see Dave running on the streets of golden grace.

I can almost hear him laughing as he zooms the universe in flight,
To behold its many wonders not revealed to human sight.

Dave stands as an adventurer on some distant undiscovered shore,
And pleads there with the King of Heaven,
“God, this is great, but Oh Lord, show me more!”

And every time he prays that prayer, he’s granted that request,
And the next scene that he sees is always the best one yet.

Of course, among the many things he views with his eternal scope
Are things we call “as yet unseen” like love and joy and peace and hope –

And freedom that defies the grasp of earthly man’s mere mortal mind,
Existing without boundaries, without limits, beyond time.

Dave holds these priceless jewels of truth in his appointed treasure room,
He keeps them in a distant place, like pages stacked upon the moon,

A moon that we can see above, lighted by the Heavenly grace
That allows us to remember him until we see him face to face.
